Awareness of Keratoconus and Its Association With Eye Rubbing Among the Population in Aseer Province

Background: Keratoconus (KC), is a non-inflammatory, bilateral, asymmetrical, progressive disease characterized by ectasia, thinning, increasing corneal curvature, and loss of visual acuity. In Saudi Arabia, it was discovered that KC has been the main reason for transplantation in past 20 years. Eye rubbing considered one most significant risk factors based on available data. Participants methods: A cross-sectional study conducted among adults Aseer province, Arabia 2023. Data were collected through pre-designed online questionnaire consisting 17 questions divided into three sections. The preceded informed consent insured to maintain confidentiality Results: total 498 respondents included this study. majority study's participants 18 25 age group females made up majority. had university education. 41.6% individuals reported experiencing an allergic disorder, 59.0% having knowledge about KC, overall participants’ awareness regarding poor at 85.74%, with highest percentage good (22.2%) detected 18-25 group. Conclusion: revealed concerning lack population Province, Arabia. Additionally, engaged eye rubbing, behavior associated increased KC. There need importance avoiding rubbing.
